Paimon
Paimon · Ninth of Solomon's 72 Spirits — King of Arts and Knowledge
Ninth and powerful king among the 72 spirits of the Lesser Key of Solomon. He teaches all arts, sciences, and hidden knowledge, riding a camel and arriving before the conjurer with great pomp and musical procession. Poets such as Dante depict him as patron of learning; the 2018 horror film Hereditary brought him popular fame as the demon who orchestrates the protagonist's tragedy.
Origin
Some derive his name from a Hebrew root meaning 'to make a sound.' First systematized in 16th-century grimoires as a powerful king commanding 200 legions. An apocryphal tradition holds that he was originally an angel who fell with Lucifer.
Features
- Crowned man riding a camel
- Arrives with great pomp and musical procession
- Voice both hoarse and rough
- Commands 200 legions of demons
Stories
In Solomonic magic he is said to teach the secrets of arts, sciences, astronomy, geology, and the winds. Conjurers are advised to call him before other demons because his answers are most direct. One of the most popular demons in modern occultism and horror.
