Norse god of war, justice, law, and oaths — the bravest among the Æsir. When the gods bound the monstrous wolf Fenrir, only Tyr would place his right hand in the wolf's mouth as a pledge of good faith. He lost the hand when the trick was revealed. His rune ᛏ (Tiwaz) symbolizes victory and honor.
Origin
Either a son of Odin or, in older traditions, the giant Hymir. He fostered the young Fenrir, earning the wolf's trust — which made him the only god willing to risk his hand to bind the beast.

Stories
