Geomungo ยท Yukhyeongeum โ€” Traditional Korean six-string zither

The geomungo is a traditional Korean zither with six strings. It features a long wooden soundbox, producing deep and resonant tones. It is played using the fingers and a bamboo stick called suldae.

Origin

The geomungo is believed to have originated in the Goguryeo kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period. Some accounts attribute its refinement to Park Yeon, who was inspired by Chinese instruments; it became popular among scholars and at the royal court during the Joseon dynasty.
