The supreme fire deity of Japanese mythology. At the moment of his birth, his flames burned his mother Izanami to death — a symbol that creation and destruction are inseparable. Slain by his grief-stricken father Izanagi, yet from his blood and body fragments dozens of divine beings were born. Fire is both death and birth, and he is the king who embodies that contradiction in himself.
起源
Recorded in the Japanese chronicles Kojiki and Nihon Shoki. Born as the last child of Izanagi and Izanami, his very birth brought death and separation into the world. After his death, the underworld (Yomi) became fully separated from the living world.
特徵
- Colossal divine form — his body is a living volcano; proximity alone turns the surrounding terrain to lava
- Paradox of flame creation: killing him births more fire-beings, forming an 'immortal cycle'
- Guardian of volcanic eruptions, wildfires, metallurgy, and pottery — a double-edged sword on the battlefield
- Cannot be contracted — interaction is only possible through ritual appeasement or shrine sealing to prevent disaster
用途
An object of sealing and dedication, not contract. Summoned in rituals for volcanic disaster prevention, metallurgical protection, and pre-war fire oracles. Incorrectly performed rites result in catastrophe.
弱點
Can be calmed by Mizuhanome, the water-goddess of abundance. Can only be fully suppressed by sacred shrines and sealing devices. Control through contract is impossible.
